At the Max Planck Society and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the central translation offices have to navigate the complex challenge of supporting diverse research institutes without compromising their respective founding principles of autonomy.
Over 5 years ago, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft introduced a central translation office to support the decentralized organization in presenting a harmonized language and provide our organization with a standard set of assets. At Max-Planck, the challenge is also to optimally support its 85 institutes with services, software and style recommendations while, at the same time, not interfering with the freedom and autonomy they enjoy.
This session examines the transition from traditional, siloed workflows to an integrated, AI-augmented ecosystem. We will discuss the challenges of implementing NMT and LLM solutions within large, public research organizations, focusing on balancing regulatory compliance with scalable innovation.
