„The Challenges of Long-Lifecycle Product Documentation“ von Fabrice Lacroix
Delivering documentation when everything changes: this is the multifaceted challenge encountered by industries with decades-long product lifecycles. As equipment evolves through upgrades and changing configurations, regulations shift — such as with the Machinery Regulation and Digital Product Passport — and knowledge tools and systems age out, traditional static manuals are no longer enough. This session explores how organizations can modernize content delivery to keep product knowledge accurate, accessible, and compliant throughout the entire lifecycle — from newly launched products to legacy and end-of-life installations.
„From Cost Center to Strategic Asset: Proving the ROI of Documentation“ von Funke Olasupo
Documentation teams are rarely seen as strategic. They are brought in late, cut first, and measured on output. Most accept this position not because it is accurate, but because they are presenting the wrong evidence to the wrong people. Page views, article counts, and time-on-page are easy to report. They may not mean much to anyone making budget decisions. Engagement metrics do not convert into organisational influence, and leading with them is exactly why documentation teams keep losing the argument when it matters most. The question is not whether documentation creates value. It does. The question is whether your team can prove it in language that moves decisions. This session shows you how we connected documentation directly to outcomes leadership acts on: reduced support load, faster onboarding, higher product adoption. It also shows how to use that evidence to shift the team's position from reactive support function to strategic contributor with influence over priorities, resources, and roadmap decisions.
„Embracing the Usability Economy: Recasting Technical Communication for the Modern Marketplace“ von Prof. Dr. Kirk St.Amant
Career success often means fitting into the economic context, or “economy,” of a particular time. Such “fitting” often involves understanding and addressing the societal, technical, or other dynamics shaping the economic development of a period. (For example, we’ve seen discussions of the “attention economy” or the “AI economy.”) For technical communicators, this fitting involves advocating what they do in terms of the connections between psychology, usability, and marketability within the modern marketplace. Essentially, career success involves understanding and embracing today’s “usability economy” and the central role technical communicators can play in it. This presentation will examine the dynamics of this new economy and discuss how technical communicators can position themselves for success in it.
„Content Doesn’t Mean Knowledge: Next Step Beyond Structured Content, Metadata and Content Delivery“ von Alex Masycheff
Authors create content. Customers are looking for knowledge. Authors bother about content reuse, content profiling, variations management, and version control. Customers want to get the information that precisely addresses their issues. Authors document subject areas according to their area of expertise. Customers need a way to navigate through pieces of information covering multiple subject areas. So what are you focusing on when delivering product documentation to your customers: content or knowledge? Join us at this session to learn: Why the concepts of structured content, metadata, and content delivery alone are not the solution in the modern world any more. Why these concepts need to be augmented by knowledge orchestration. How knowledge graphs can become a secret ingredient of an intelligent knowledge navigation. What it takes to transform content into knowledge.
„DIY or Buy: Quantifying the Shadow Costs of Self-made AI Translation Solutions“ von Marion Randelshofer
As generative AI lowers the entry barrier for automated translation, a growing number of enterprises are moving away from established workflows with language-service providers toward self-made AI solutions and in-house translation pipelines. Driven by the promise of drastic cost reduction, these initiatives often suffer from "Total Cost of Ownership" (TCO) myopia. This presentation pulls back the curtain on the shadow costs of DIY AI translation. We will explore the hidden financial and operational burdens often omitted from initial ROI projections, including the high labour of ensuring terminology precision, the difficulty of cross-departmental consistency, the logistical complexity of large-scale data curation, and the significant resource drain of "human-in-the-loop" verification.
"Who's in Charge Here? Designing Human-Centered AI Workflows for Technical Communication" von Elzbieta Wiltenburg
The pressure to adopt AI is real, but handing steps to an AI agent without a clear design for human oversight is how workflows break down quietly. In this talk, I'll show how to architect AI workflows that keep humans in the right place at the right time: in control without becoming a bottleneck, and efficient without giving up accountability. Using a single end-to-end scenario (draft, validate, publish), I'll walk through two workflow architectures: one where every step is defined and auditable, one where AI navigates the path itself. You'll see how the choice between them changes where human judgment is required, what guardrails are needed, and how you measure success. Whether you're a writer looking to work smarter, a team lead designing a new process, or a decision maker evaluating AI adoption, you'll leave with a framework you can sketch on a whiteboard and a checklist you can act on next week.
