At the past three tekom Europe meetings, Use-Lab presented results on data we have collected about if, when and how healthcare professionals work with instructions for use - digital and analog. This year our focus is again on eIFUs and how healthcare professionals work with them and, equally importantly, want to work with them. Throughout the past year we have collected comparative survey data looking at which types of digital IFUs healthcare professionals use and when, which ones they prefer to use, and how they use them.

In addition to looking at the data, we consider potential practical implications for technical writers who create either or both electronic paper and instructions for use.

Biografie

Als Projektmanagerin bei der Use-Lab GmbH konzipiert Stephanie Schwenke Studien, um Herstellern dabei zu helfen, zu erfahren, wie gut „echte Menschen” mit ihren Produkten arbeiten können und was sie tun können, um diese Produkte zu verbessern. Ihre Liebe zum geschriebenen Wort hat zu einem besonderen Fokus auf technische Dokumentation und insbesondere Gebrauchsanweisungen geführt. Ihr Hintergrund in Psychologie (B.Sc., Universität Freiburg) und Kognitionswissenschaft (M.Sc., Universität Freiburg) ist hilfreich bei der Entwicklung von Methoden zum Testen von Dokumenten, die die Teilnehmenden motivieren und den Autor:innen nützliche Informationen liefern.

As a project manager at Use-Lab GmbH, Stephanie Schwenke designs studies to help manufacturers learn how well "real people" can work with their products and what they can do to make those products better. A strong love of the written word has a led to a special focus on technical documentation and in particular instructructions for use; a background in psychology (B.Sc., Universität Freiburg) and cognitive science (M.Sc., Universität Freiburg) proves useful in developing methods for testing documents in a way that keeps participants engaged and provides useful information for the authors.

Torsten Gruchmann

Biografie

Torsten Gruchmann, Studium der Physikalischen Technik. Mitarbeiter der FH Münster bis 2001. Gründer der Use-Lab GmbH, ein Beratungsunternehmen für Medizinproduktehersteller für Usability Engineering und UI-Design. Mitarbeiter im nationalen und internationalen Human Factors Komitee für Medizinprodukte. Seit 2014 vertritt er die Medizintechnik im tekom-Beirat Recht und Normen.

Torsten Gruchmann studied physical engineering. He worked at Münster University of Applied Sciences until 2001. He founded Use-Lab GmbH, a consulting firm for medical device manufacturers specializing in usability engineering and UI design. He is a member of the national and international Human Factors Committee for Medical Devices. Since 2014, he has represented medical technology on the tekom Advisory Board for Law and Standards.
